Indigenous People's Day: A Story of Creation

Indigenous People's Day: A Story of Creation

The purpose of this event is to celebrate the heritage of our Indigenous student body/community and acknowledge the land we are occupying. We invite our campus community to learn about the history of indigenous people through a historic walkway.

We will open our program with a blessing of the land by Marianne Yaeger (Chumash liaison). Following the blessing, the walkway will tell a story connecting the past and present stories of indigenous people. Ending with a look at how colonization and erasure have impacted the community and land today.

Ending with an opportunity for our campus community to take responsibility, by filling out a digital pact that will have them acknowledge the land occupied and think of how they can work towards a sustainable campus.

This event is part of the Center for Cultural Engagement and Inclusion series.
