We acknowledge that California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks resides on the unceded ancestral sacred land of the Chumash Peoples. We express gratitude and appreciation to those whose homelands are the ones on which we now live and work. We recognize and honor their long and deep connections to this soil and all the lives it supports. In affirming this land, we also recognize the histories of violence and cultural genocide that occurred alongside the involuntary displacement of many native communities. As members of this educational community, we wish to examine these truths, not to keep them buried away from scrutiny. We are grateful to our Chumash neighbors who teach us, through their relationships with us, that cultural practices sustain the health of individuals and communities.
