Dead Man's Cell Phone
Mainstage Production
Join the Cal Lutheran Theatre Department for Dead Man’s Cell Phone, a quirky and darkly comedic play by Sarah Ruhl, directed by professor Christine Cummings.
In a quiet café, Jean answers a cell phone that won’t stop ringing, only to discover that it belonged to a dead man named Gordon. Her decision to answer the phone plunges her into his bizarre world, where she encounters his grieving widow, mysterious mistress, domineering mother and secret illegal dealings. As Jean becomes entangled in Gordon’s complicated life, the play explores how technology can isolate us from genuine human connection — and how the living search for meaning in the digital traces the dead leave behind.
This production contains mature themes, including death, grief, infidelity, sexual references and strong language, and may not be suitable for all audiences.
Tickets are available online in advance and at the door. Advanced purchase of tickets is strongly encouraged, as seating in the Black Box Studio Theatre is limited. Admission is $12.30 if paying by credit card, $10 if paying with cash at the door and free for Cal Lutheran students, faculty and staff members with Cal Lutheran ID. Donations will be accepted to support the Theatre Arts Department.
