26th Annual Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival

"King Lear"

26th Annual Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival

Fridays through Sundays, 8 p.m.

July 21-23, July 28-30, Aug. 4-6

King Lear, an aging pagan king of ancient Briton, divides his kingdom among his two daughters who express their love for him, and banishes the third, who is less flattering to him. His eldest daughters both then reject him. Lear descends into madness as he loses his throne, is imprisoned, and dies brokenhearted.

Kingsmen Shakespeare Company is the professional theater company of Cal Lutheran. The nonprofit organization coordinates apprentice programs for professional and aspiring Shakespearean actors, an educational tour program in local schools, and summer theater camps for youth.

Festival grounds open at 5:30 p.m. for pre-show picnicking and entertainment. General admission is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors 62 and older and active military, $15 for students 18 and older with ID, and free for those 17 and younger. Reserved lawn boxes are $100 to $120. A lawn box accommodates four to six, and only one ticket is required per box. Online ticketing is available for both lawn boxes and general admission on the website. Parking is available in the lots at the corner of Olsen Road and Mountclef Boulevard.
