Fifty and Better Summer Lectures: August

The Fifty and Better (FAB) program was designed for people ages 50 and older, seeking intellectual stimulation through university-level courses — without the pressure of grades — for the sake of learning and social engagement.

The schedule for August includes:

  • The Art of Fabergé with Eleanor Schrader — Tuesday, Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Zoom
  • The Vulnerability of Our Interconnected, Resilient, Modern World with Paul Witman, PhD — Wednesday, Aug. 6,10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Zoom
  • From Broadway to Movies: Let’s Talk Musicals with Sam and Candy Caponegro — Thursday, Aug. 7, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Zoom
  • The ACE Score Effect: Childhood Trauma, Crime and the Power of Intervention (Two Parts) with Molly George, PhD — Mondays, Aug. 11 and 18,10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Zoom and Thousand Oaks campus
  • Speech in the Digital Age: Free Expression, Suppression and the Tools of Control with Aaron Heresco, PhD — Wednesday, Aug. 13,10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Zoom and Thousand Oaks campus
  • “All-Girl” Orchestras and Female Musicians of WWII, featuring the International Sweethearts of Rhythm (Two Parts) with Dave Radlauer — Thursdays, Aug. 14 and 21, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Zoom
  • Religion’s Influence on Key American Figures: Betsy Ross, Phillis Wheatley, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass (Two Parts) with Jason Hensley, PhD — Wednesdays, Aug. 20 and 27, 1-3 p.m., Zoom and Thousand Oaks campus
  • Looking through the Window: The Art of Edward Hopper with Katherine Zoraster — Monday, Aug. 25,10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Zoom and Thousand Oaks campus

All times listed are Pacific Daylight Time. Registration is required by 3 p.m. the day before each lecture.
