hold on & let go

Artworks by Madeleine Ignon

hold on & let go

hold on & let go gathers 10 years of multimedia work by artist and designer Madeleine Ignon, whose practice brings painting, graphic design and craft traditions into active dialogue. Ignon’s layered compositions — often influenced by quiltmaking, collage and the physical topography of the canvas — stage encounters between order and interruption, and precision and intuition. Paint pools and flows with the surface itself, becoming a record of decision, change and the ways images hold both structure and release.

Some of her current work also reflects Ignon’s experience of becoming a mother, attending to the psychological and physical transformations that shape identity, language and attention. Found and personal text, graphic systems and painterly gestures coexist, producing the “collisions” she seeks between rational and emotional modes of making. The exhibition highlights Ignon’s sustained inquiry into how visual languages document lived experience — how we hold on, and how we learn to let go.

Center hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
