Disability Support Services (DSS)
Submitted by Luis Perez Jr. '25
My name is Luis Perez Jr. I am a senior at CLU majoring in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Political Science with minors in Business Administration and Psychology. As a student with a learning disability, my semesters have been busy, but it all has been worth it, knowing that Disability Support Services (DSS) has my back. The accommodations, both academic and housing, as well as the community provided through the program, have given me every bit of motivation. Students with varying health, psychological, learning, and physical conditions are encouraged to apply to DSS. I know DSS wants to see its students succeed, especially because of our recent expansion project (in collaboration with the Associated Students of CLU Government – ASCLUG) that called for more staff and office space dedicated to DSS. I believe DSS is a program that schools cannot function without, as the program provides equitable access to pursuing educational success. I want to see future generations of CLU students see beyond any limitations for years to come, which is made possible with considerable community support and funding. As the president of the Disability Advocacy Student Association (DASA), I am pictured below with the rest of the Spring 2025 cabinet. Without the support of these organizations, I would not be able to say that I am graduating with high honors and a positive state of mind this May. Thank you for hearing my story! #CalLutheranCares
