Hilary Morefield Colman, M.Ed

About

Hilary Morefield Colman is a Visual & Media Arts educator with 11+ years of experience in the arts education field, including work for K-12 public schools, museums, and non-profit organizations. She received her Masters in Education (Teacher Leadership) and credential from California Lutheran University and a B.A in Visual Arts (Media) and Communications from UC San Diego.

Hilary currently works as an 9th-12th grade art & photo teacher for the Ventura Unified School District. Prior to working in public education, she worked in the nonprofit sector as a teaching artist and curriculum developer in San Diego, Los Angeles, and in Bosnia-Herzegovina. She has taught & contributed to projects with Outside the Lens, Wandering Film School, Santa Paula Art Museum, Venice Arts, Inner City Arts, Media Arts Center San Diego, and High Tech High.

She is a national Teacher Leader for Connected Arts Network (CAN), representing the National Arts Education Association (NAEA) and leading PLCs with art educators from around the country. Her work has been published in Art Education, the K-12 Art Chat Podcast, and has been presented at numerous conferences. She enjoys serving as a mentor to future arts educators, teaching the EDTP 535 arts methods course at CLU in addition to serving as an induction mentor and cooperating teacher for her district.

Her research and practice interests include: arts education, preservice education, arts integration, media arts, career and technical education, and inclusion and SEL through the arts.
