CLU Sociology Professor Selected as 'Professor of the Year'

California Lutheran University's Student Life Committee recently announced the selection of the 2003 Professor of the Year and Senior of the Year awards.

Dr. Charles Hall, an associate professor of sociology and a resident of Thousand Oaks, was recognized with the Professor of the Year Award. Dr. Hall, who is trained as both a pastor and sociologist, teaches courses in cultural conflict and change, sociology of religion, sexuality and society. He has published several articles on Christian activism, the church and homosexuality, church–state law, the integration of faith and higher education, and the changing American family. Hall received his bachelor's from Mercer University before earning his master's in religious education at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and his master's and doctorate at Purdue University.

Nicole Hackbarth and Kirstine Odegard were selected by their classmates as Seniors of the Year. Hackbarth, a communication major from Thousand Oaks, has been an active participant in student government during her four years at CLU, serving as Associated Students of California Lutheran University (ASCLU) president during the past year. She has been hired to work as an Area Resident Coordinator for CLU after graduation. Odegard, a music major from Carson City, Nev., has been an active member of student government, and has served as a member of the residence life staff.
