Now is the Time – Campaign Needs Reviewed

###############################################################################################################################################################################################################################################################

CLU’s academic leaders have identified the following areas of current endowment as those of highest need and most beneficial to the University community. These areas will be the focus of fund–raising efforts for current endowment in the Now Is the Time campaign.

Increasing current endowment in these categories will enable us to continue to improve academic programs and strengthen CLU’s role as an academic institution thereby enhancing the University’s reputation and raising its visibility. The amount in parentheses is the minimum amount required to establish each endowment.

• Endowed Chairs ($2,000,000) – Endowed chairs provide the resources necessary to hire academicians of prominence in given areas to develop and strengthen course offerings in the chosen field. CLU currently has two endowed chairs: The Belgum Chair in Lutheran Confessional Theology and the Fletcher–Jones Chair in Developmental Biology. The School of Education hopes to establish an endowed chair to further develop its doctoral program.

• Endowed Professorships ($750,000) – Like endowed chairs, endowed professorships provide the resources necessary to hire professors of prominence in specific academic areas. The responsibility of the professor is primarily to bring his/her expertise into the classroom rather than to develop programs.

• Endowed Centers ($1,000,000) – An Endowed Center provides resources, research, leadership and programs within a specific area of academic study. It is an expression of the mission statement’s idea of leadership, an opportunity to model reflective engagement for our students and a chance to help create a means of communication.

Centers specifically earmarked for development through the Now Is the Time campaign include the Segerhammar Center for Faith and Culture, the Center for Leadership and Values (School of Business) and the Educational Research and Leadership Institute (School of Education). Also being considered are centers for integrated bioscience, international studies, science education and entrepreneurial leadership.

Other projects identified as high priorities for the establishment of current endowments include Laboratory & Technology Endowment ($500,000), Other Endowments ($250,000) and Endowed Scholarships ($25,000).
