CLU Launches New Master’s Program in Deaf Education

Information meeting to be held at Woodland Hills satellite campus

(THOUSAND OAKS, CA – February 2007) - California Lutheran University will host an informational meeting to launch its newest master’s degree program in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at CLU’s satellite campus in Woodland Hills, where the degree will initially be offered beginning this summer.

The two-year graduate program is designed for educators who want to attend school part-time to hone their skills in teaching students with hearing loss. CLU is the only public-school based teacher preparation program in the state to offer a program that focuses on teaching spoken language to children with hearing loss using the latest hearing technologies, according to Terry Cannings, Ed.D., Dean of the School of Education.

"Our new Deaf and Hard of Hearing education program fits perfectly into our ongoing efforts to inspire educational leaders for the 21st century,” says Cannings. “We are looking forward to working together with graduate students and the parents of children with hearing loss to ensure that all students who are deaf or hard of hearing achieve their full potential.”

CLU’s School of Education already offers numerous credential curricula and master’s degrees in educational leadership, counseling and guidance, special education, administrative services and pupil personnel services. Doctoral degrees are offered in educational leadership and higher education leadership.

The Woodland Hills site is located at 21052 Oxnard St. For more information or to reserve a space at the meeting, please call (818) 888-6414, or Maura Martindale, Ed.D., Director of the Master’s in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education program, at (310) 346-3886.
