Educational Camps for Youth to be held at CLU

(THOUSAND OAKS, CA – June 2007) – Four educational camps will be held at California Lutheran University this summer. The camps will cater to students ages 8-17 and will offer instruction on different areas of learning such as theatre, core subjects and computer science.

Camp Shakespeare is a series of five summer theatre camps for boys and girls ages 8-16. The first workshop is for 10-16-year-olds who want to learn the techniques and skills necessary for acting for the camera. The camp will be held June 18-29 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The second workshop, also for 10-16-year-olds, will focus on advanced acting techniques such as improvisation, stage combat and scene study. This workshop will be held June 18-29 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The third workshop, for ages 8-12, is an introduction to the works of Shakespeare. The camp will be held July 9-20 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The fourth workshop is for advanced campers ages 11-16 and includes an intensive four-week training and rehearsal program. This workshop will be held July 9-Aug. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The fifth workshop is a musical theatre workshop that will focus on auditioning, performance and vocal technique. This workshop is for 11-16-year-olds and will run July 23-Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information on Camp Shakespeare, call (805) 493-3455 or visit www.kingsmenshakespeare.org

The Center for Talented Youth’s Summer Academic Enrichment Camp, sponsored by Johns Hopkins University, is for fifth- through eighth-graders. Camp sessions run from June 17 to July 13 and July 15 to Aug. 6. The summer residential program focuses on academic course work for talented students from throughout the country.
