CLU named one of the best colleges for Hispanics

Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education highlights nation's top schools

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education named California Lutheran University one of the best schools for Hispanics in the United States for the 12th consecutive year.

Inclusion in the Publisher’s Picks list, which appears in the Nov. 19 issue, is based on responses to a comprehensive survey and an examination of the literature, catalogs and events of more than 2,500 institutions. According to Publisher José López-Isa, “Many Hispanic students have shown they can thrive and persist” at the selected schools.

Through a coordination of efforts in the Multicultural and International Programs Office, the Gender and Ethnic Studies Program and the Center for Equality and Justice, CLU students have an opportunity to participate in the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) and numerous cultural events such as Las Posadas, Dia de los Muertos and other learning opportunities.

Since receiving a grant from The James Irvine Foundation to increase diversity within the student body, faculty and staff, the university has placed even more emphasis on encouraging inclusion, cross-cultural interaction and appreciation of diversity. The boost from the Irvine Foundation has expanded CLU’s interest in world cultures in the context of academic scholarship and study.
