CLU speaker to discuss globalization

His group pushes policies for the common good

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Feb. 3, 2009) A speaker will discuss ethical, moral and spiritual views of globalization at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at California Lutheran University.

Kamran Mofid is the founder of the Globalization for the Common Good Initiative and co-founder/editor of the Journal of Globalization for the Common Good. The organization’s mission is to encourage adoption of public policy at all levels that builds the common good of our global community.

Mofid was born in Iran and holds dual British and Canadian nationality. His work is highly interdisciplinary, drawing on economics, politics, international relations, theology, culture, ecology, ethics and spirituality. He has taught development economics, business studies, international business and the political economy of the Middle East for the past 28 years. In recent years, he has developed seminars on such topics as economics and theology, Islam and Christianity in dialogue, and business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

He has written or co-authored six books including “Business Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility and Globalization for the Common Good” and “A Non-Violent Path to Conflict Resolution and Peace Building.”  Mofid’s writings have appeared in a variety of publications from leading scholarly journals to popular magazines, and he has spoken at many major international conferences and universities.

Mofid earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics, a doctorate in economics and a certificate in education in pastoral studies.

 “Promoting Globalization for the Common Good” is a free event presented by the Center for Leadership and Values in CLU’s School of Business as part of the Alma and Clifford Pearson Distinguished Speakers Series.
