Upward Bound Students Selected to Attend Conference in Washington, D.C.

The CLU Upward Bound Program has selected two high school students from the Oxnard Union High School District – Moises Plascencia and Yau Lee – to participate in the Council for Opportunity in Education Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C., from March 23–27.

The Rio Mesa High School students will meet with congressional representatives to express their concern about the future funding of educational programs for high school students. The students will have an opportunity to attend workshops related to legislative policy making and to visit various colleges and national monuments.

The students were selected to attend the policy seminar based on their academic performance, active participation in the Upward Bound Program and an essay about the importance of higher education.

"This will be an excellent event for the participating students because it will expose them to legislative policy making and the opportunity to express their concerns about education," said Oscar Cobian, Director of the Upward Bound Program.
