This research focuses on the different traditions, arts, food, music, cities and sites that are considered Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Mexico, and the reason for which each one was selected as such, in order to understand better the heritage of Mexican culture and what Mexico has to offer to its people and visitors, and to be able to inform more people about such material and immaterial things that are on the UNESCO’s list.  The goal for this project is to achieve an in depth list and summary of each of the items listed as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Mexico to portray the best of what Mexico has to offer, so this information could later be used in California Lutheran’s Hospitality and Tourism Management major for further knowledge of Mexico, when a student is interested in promoting that country as a vacation destination.  The research is based on information found on several articles, scholarly journals, books and websites.

The culture and tradition from the indigenous and creole people from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia is very fascinating and intricate. All three of these countries fall in the Andes Mountain region in South America. Although these countries are different in terms of climate, laws, and environmental features, they have many similarities when it comes to religious traditions, celebrations, and customs. When doing research, it was discovered that many indigenous people had to adapt to their current country when they were being colonized during the 15th -16th century and that is why many ancestral DNA and culture from all three of those countries are similar. The research focuses on the different celebrations and traditions from the Andean region and how these tradition and customs have come to be, dating back to the 15th-16th century. México, which has a large indigenous population, introduced a method of Intercultural Education in 1995. The Intercultural method was defined as one which would recognize the cultural divergences, respect and coexist with other cultures through dialogue and exchange. Chiapas, being among one of the nation’s states with a highly diverse indigenous population, consequently also introduced this system into their public schools. This research focuses on the efficiency of the intercultural education system in Chiapas, México since its establishment. Previous research and data has shown that although the program has made some improvement in the education of the indigenous students of Chiapas, much more work needs to continue to be done in order to reach the optimum level of education for these communities. For the Mexican culture the agave plant is more than just raw material. Although rarely discussed, the agave plant has played an underlying role in the development of Mexican identity. This research paper explores how the agave plant establishes a sense of identity in Mexican culture through music, film, and values. Mezcal and other distilled drinks produced from the agave plant can be considered products encountered by the clash of two worlds. The distilled products of the agave plant are easily identifiable with Mexican identity because like the Mexican people, the distilled drinks are also Mestizo. The raw material of the agave plant originated in the Americas and the Spanish used it, along with their knowledge of distillation to create distilled beverages. The research for this project was conducted using online resources and other materials from the CLU library.

There are misconceptions that all Latin American cultures are the same and this investigation’s importance is to see the similarities but also look at the wide range of differences between the culture’s music. The goal of this project is to look at the similarities and differences of folklore music in Latin American countries. Latin America contains many countries and cultures and it is important to understand that they are not completely the same even if they have similar backgrounds. In general, the folklore music of Latin America has similar roots from Europe, Africa, and the indigenous people. They have similar roots but the way they create rhythms and how they play their music very from place to place. Research will be done using resources from the library and scholarly articles online. 

Laws serve many purposes in society. Laws establish standards, maintain order, resolve disputes and protect liberties and rights. Every country has its own set of laws that are put in place to maintain order in that specific country. The laws in each country reflect its values and culture. This research paper explores a few of the most controversial topics and how they relate to the law of each country in Spanish America. These topics include; abortion, same sex marriage and divorce. Research was done using sources from the library, magazines, and online scholarly articles. The findings show how each country in Spanish America view the topic through the lense of the law as well as how the countries compare to one another. This paper also reveals any events and/or court cases that changed the perspective of a country and shaped the law.

Child prostitution is a problem throughout the world, whether we recognize it or not. In Latin America, Costa Rica is a country famous among tourists for its natural resources, however, few people know even in this country, child prostitution still occurs. Many have wondered why this situation exists, but no one takes the time to try hard enough to make a difference about it. The focus of this research is specifically on child prostitution within Costa Rica, and how it affects the country, where even the current laws don’t necessarily protect the children. This research is based on sources found online as well as other printed materials.

This research project focuses in the handcrafts of the different regions across Mexico. The diverse population and the vast geography of Mexico offers a glimpse of the different cultures that arise within just one country. This investigation helps understand why different populations have their own distinct artistic homemade items that represent their regions and Mexico as a whole. The sources for this investigation include research from the Pearson Library including magazines, scholarly articles, and books as well as online articles and visual aids.

Corn in Latin American is an essential in some countries more than others and the uses range from food to crafts. The main purpose of this research is differentiating between the Latin American cultures that use corn for certain tasks and those who may not use corn at all. The first step in gathering information in order to be able to classify the Latin American countries into categories by their use of corn was to create a list of all the countries. The next step was using the library as a resource for books an s scholarly articles online that had any information on corn use in the individual Latin American countries. Based on this information is how the Latin American countries were sorted and placed into groups divided into food, crafts, and tools. Finally, the process of putting all this information together was done.

Mental health services are scarce and evolving in Latin America. It is important to observe and compare mental health services in Latin America to find ways to improve them. The goal of this research is to inform the community about the mental health services in Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina. In some instances, Latinos do not take advantage of the resources available to them and in others, there are no resources available to the community. The information used for this research was found online.

The laws in Latin America have changed tremendously overtime, along with the ideals and morals of Latin Americans, causing a lot of controversy. Laws regarding abortion, domestic violence and divorce range a great deal depending on the country. This research is centered around the laws regarding domestic violence, divorce, and abortion in order to shed light on the severity of the manner and how each is handled.  The values/ morals of each also are taken into consideration in order to convey the difference in how certain laws in each Latin American country are followed. This research is based on the investigation of the laws in each country, which of those crimes are punished and how they are punished. The information for this research will derive from resources such as books and other internet sources.

Protestantism is a phenomenon that began in the sixteenth century after the Reformation created by a German monk named Martin Luther. Even though, this movement started in Germany it impacted the whole world. This movement started the beginning of a new era with new beliefs away from the power of the Catholic church. Although in Latin America the majority of the population is Catholic, there is also a growing percentage of the population that belong to one of the protestant religions. The goal of this research is to compare the protestant religions within the Latin American countries and the census on Mexico based on the region and religion. It is important to consider the religious minorities in Latin America and their impact on their societies in order to understand the dynamic of the country.
