Shawn D. Howie
Outstanding Alumni
As a college student, Shawn Howie ’78 served as treasurer of the student body, captain and MVP of the tennis team, business departmental assistant and council chair for the Lord of Life Student Congregation. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in business administration and accounting and went on to earn his MBA from Harvard University. Shawn worked for Ernst & Young for more than 10 years and has served as chief financial officer for several companies.
Over the years, Shawn has continued to be involved in the life of his alma mater. A member of CLU’s Board of Regents since 1999, he served on the Administration and Finance Committee and currently is a member of the Student and Spiritual Life Committee. He has also served on the “Now Is The Time” Steering Committee and several Benefit Banquet committees.
Shaw is generous in his financial support of the University as well. In addition to gifts to the business, music, athletics, biology and psychology departments, he has donated to several scholarships and capital projects.
Shawn and his wife, Susan (Bloemer ’81), have four children; the oldest graduated from CLU in 2006 from CLU. They live in Santa Monica where Shawn is President of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church Council. Over the years, he has served on a number of boards, taught Sunday school, coached several AYSO soccer teams, and led a musical contact team on a 13-month tour of Australia under the auspices of the Lutheran Church of Australia.
