Carl Bertram Swanson
Honorary Alumni
Most alumni know Carl Bertram Swanson, who was university organist and a faculty member in the Music Department over 45 years. Professor Swanson retired from his teaching post (where he taught organ, piano, music appreciation, advanced music theory and music fundamentals) in 1998, but served as organist many years thereafter. Aside from his time in CLU’s classrooms and chapel, he has toured extensively and held numerous recitals all over the world, including in Sweden, Spain and England. Professor Swanson was also honored by the American Scandinavian Foundation for outstanding service in education and music. And those who have visited the Samuelson Chapel have admired the very impressive Borg Peterson Memorial Organ that Professor Swanson helped design.
