The Laramie Project

Mainstage Production

The Laramie Project

Join the Theatre Arts Department for a thought-provoking play directed by Christine Cummings. The Laramie Project is a powerful, emotionally gripping play that explores the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man in Laramie, Wyoming.

Created by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project, this documentary-style production is based on hundreds of interviews with Laramie residents. Through a mosaic of real voices and perspectives, the play confronts issues of hate, hope and humanity. The Laramie Project is more than theater — it’s a call to reflection, dialogue and change. Unflinching and deeply moving, it remains a vital piece of American drama that resonates now more than ever.

A Talk Back Panel will take place after the performance on Friday, Oct. 17.

Tickets are $10; free for Cal Lutheran students, faculty and staff. Donations will be accepted to support the Theatre Arts Program.

Warning: This play contains mature themes, triggering language and descriptions of violence, including hate crimes, homophobia and prejudice, that may be upsetting to some audience members. Viewer discretion is advised. Recommended for audiences ages 14 and up.
