Helping nonprofit leaders do better at doing good

Board Service Bootcamp

CNL’s Board Service Bootcamp is a collaborative training opportunity to train and ready future board members for effective and high impact board service opportunities.

About the Board Service Bootcamp

The Board Service Bootcamp, now in its sixth year, prepares corporate and civic leaders from traditionally underrepresented and underrecruited backgrounds for future board service. This includes seasoned and emerging corporate leaders, natural community leaders, diverse identities, regional geography, age, gender, leadership traits, skills and spheres of influence.

The program consists of four modules of training grounded in board governance best practices, tapping into personal passion and interests and what to expect when joining a board of directors. Training is then followed by tailored, one-on-one coaching to find board service opportunities with local nonprofits. The goal is to enhance and deepen the pool of leaders ready and able to hit the ground running in this critical leadership role.

Who Should Attend?

The Board Service Bootcamp is co-hosted by invitation-only in partnership with regional corporations, employers and civic leadership groups. Participants are identified as high potential, high performing candidates to participate in cohorts of 15-20 people per cycle. Participants must make a full commitment to the training program, typically convened over four consecutive weeks, each person making every effort to attend all sessions.

Six weeks following the completion of each Bootcamp, participating individuals are then challenged to identify and pursue board service opportunities that align with their personal interests.

To date, nearly 200 leaders have completed the program and over half are now seated on a nonprofit board or are in active discovery.
