TRIO Talent Search
The Talent Search program helps students from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in higher education by providing academic, career, and financial counseling. It supports participants in graduating high school, applying for financial aid, and completing postsecondary education. The program also encourages those who left school to reenter and finish. Its goal is to increase the number of disadvantaged youth who complete high school and college.
Projects offer tutoring, career exploration, counseling, mentoring, workshops, and college information. They also provide financial literacy education, support for reentry or alternative programs, and help with GED or college entry. Services are tailored for English learners, underrepresented students, those with disabilities, foster youth, homeless youth, and other disconnected students.
Services include:
- Academic, financial, career, or personal counseling including advice on entry or re-entry to secondary or postsecondary programs
- Career exploration and aptitude assessment
- Tutorial services
- Information on postsecondary education
- Exposure to college campuses
- Information on student financial assistance
- Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications
- Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
- Mentoring programs
- Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders
- Workshops for the families of participants
- Guidance and assistance on secondary school reentry or alternative education programs;
entry into general educational development programs or postsecondary education
