About Orientation
Welcoming You to Cal Lutheran
New Student Orientation (NSO) at California Lutheran University is a multi-day program designed to welcome and support incoming first-year and transfer students as they transition into the Cal Lutheran community.
Through a series of engaging activities, workshops, and social events, students become familiar with campus resources, academic expectations, and student life. NSO provides opportunities to connect with peer advisors, meet faculty and staff, explore involvement opportunities, and build relationships with fellow new students—all to foster a sense of belonging and prepare students for a successful start at Cal Lutheran.
At Orientation, you will become a part of the Cal Lutheran community, build new relationships, get involved, learn how to navigate the campus, and prepare yourself for the next step in your educational journey.
-
Build belonging and community.
Orientation at Cal Lutheran warmly welcomes both students and their families into an inclusive community where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected. It’s an opportunity to experience the heart of who we are—an institution where all are truly welcome.
-
Establish meaningful relationships.
Students begin forming relationships with peers, professors, and staff that will become a valuable support network throughout their journey at Cal Lutheran—laying the foundation for a successful and enriching college experience.
-
Get involved outside the classroom.
NSO introduces students to the wide range of involvement opportunities at Cal Lutheran — from student clubs and campus programs to leadership pathways and cultural experiences. Whether you're interested in starting a club, joining an intramural team, going on a service trip, or becoming a Peer Advisor, Orientation is your first step toward building a meaningful and connected college experience.
-
Navigate the campus with confidence.
Orientation helps students become familiar with Cal Lutheran’s campus so they feel prepared on the first day of classes. With the support of Peer Advisors, students can explore key locations like classrooms, offices, and student services. Bring your class schedule—we’re here to help you map it out and point you in the right direction!
-
Prepare for academic success.
Orientation offers a preview of the academic journey ahead, helping students start strong and stay focused on their goals. Through advising sessions, an introduction to First-Year Seminar, and opportunities to meet Faculty Advisors, students begin to understand academic expectations and how their courses connect to future career paths.
