Dr. Amy Gusick (lectured for FAB in summer 2024 on the submerged cultural maritime landscapes of the Southern California Bight) will be joining us for some of the tour and giving us special access.

Cost for bus transportation is $25. Students may choose to drive themselves and attend for no cost. The time listed is just for the tour and does not include travel time to/from the museum. The exact timeline and meeting location details will be sent to registrants the weeks before.

Tour of the Gustave Caillebotte: Painting Men Exhibition at the Getty

Tuesday, May 20 from 11am-12pm, second tour added from 1-2pm - WAITLISTED

French painter Gustave Caillebotte's interest in male subjects sharply distinguishes him from his Impressionist peers. Overwhelmingly, he observed and depicted the men in his life—including his brothers, bachelor friends, fellow sportsmen, and the workers and bourgeois of his neighborhood—and did so in bracingly original paintings that often subverted artistic and gender norms. His distinctive vision of modern masculinity is considered here for the first time in a major international loan exhibition.

This exhibition is on display at the Getty until May 25, 2025. On May 20, FAB faculty Katherine Zoraster will take us on a special one-hour tour of the exhibit. This tour accompanies her special lecture on Gustave Caillebotte on May 19, though it is not required to attend the lecture to go on the tour (details can be found here: https://www.callutheran.edu/centers/lifelong-learning/fifty-better/lecture-series.html).

Cost is $5. Space is limited. This is a drive-yourself tour, and FAB cannot assist in arranging carpools. Parking is free for our group with validation. Liability waiver must be signed in advance (instructions will be sent in the weeks leading up to the tour).
