Understand Your Options

As you review your offer, it is helpful to become familiar with the different types of financial aid that is available.

Scholarships and Grants

Also known as gift-aid, scholarships and grants are aid offers that do not need to be repaid. Cal Lutheran offers federal, state and institituional scholarships and grants to help fund your education.

Work Opportunities

Multiple departments across campus offer student employment opportunities to Cal Lutheran students. Working on campus is a great way to gain valuable work experience while connecting with our community.

Student Loans

Cal Lutheran participates in multiple low-interest federal student loan programs for students and their families who complete the FAFSA. We also certify and process private/alternative student loans.

Prepare for Upcoming Deadlines
End of May: Deadline for Housing

If you are planning to live on-campus, you will need to pay the $400 housing deposit and complete the Residence Life Application and Contract. Housing will not be assigned until Cal Lutheran has received your enrollment deposit, the housing deposit, and the application.

July: Billing Statements Available

Starting in July, Student Accounts will make term billing statements available through MyCLU.

July 1: Loan Priority Deadline

If you are borrowing money to assist with meeting your educational expenses, all loan application processes must be completed by this date to ensure your funds arrive promptly.

First Friday in August: Financial Clearance

By this date, you must complete your payment contract, submit all required financial aid applications and documents, and pay your first-semester charges.

If these steps are not completed on time, you may be charged a penalty fee and could be at risk of having your classes dropped.

10 days prior to the end of the term: Loan Processing Deadline

To receive financial aid for a term, all required application steps must be completed at least 10 business days before the term ends. Because loans take time to process, completing these steps early helps ensure your funds are ready on time.

Loan funds can be disbursed only if you are enrolled in the term and the disbursement occurs before the term ends.

If required steps are completed fewer than 10 business days before the end of the term, the Office of Financial Aid cannot guarantee that your loan(s) will be processed within the eligible timeframe.
