Review Medical Plans
Cal Lutheran offers robust medical plans to choose from, as well as a Medical Expense Reimbursement Plan (MERP) to help with eligible expenses.
Medical Plans
Monthly premiums vary by employment type:
When choosing a plan, consider:
- Cost: HMOs offer lower premiums; PPO-HSA plans cost more but give flexibility.
- Provider Access: PPO-HSA allows out-of-network care; HMOs require in-network/referrals.
- Care Coordination: HMOs may streamline care but limit provider choice.
Medical Expense Reimbursement Plan (MERP)
As part of your medical coverage, Cal Lutheran provides an employer-funded MERP via Nonstop Health.
Why it's helpful:
- MERP helps lower your out-of-pocket expenses for eligible medical expenses.
- There is no cost to you — it is fully funded by Cal Lutheran.
How it works:
- You will automatically receive a pre-loaded Visa card to pay for eligible, in-network and out-of-network expenses for your medical plan (e.g., copays, coinsurance, deductibles).
- Your visa card is available for immediate usage — no reimbursement delays.
- It is acceptable at the point of service (receipts are required if the card is unavailable).
