Joel Silva joins our Dean's Executive Council
Great news for the School of Management. Joel Silva, CFO of Vallarta Supermarkets, has joined the Dean's Executive Council (SOMDEC). Vallarta Supermarkets is a prominent Latino-owned retail chain in California with its headquarters in Santa Clarita. Founded in 1985, it specializes in offering a wide variety of Latin American foods, including items not typically found in mainstream grocery stores. Vallarta Supermarkets also emphasizes fresh meat and produce, as well as ready-to-eat meals and a unique in-store bakery. Since Joel joined, Vallarta Supermarkets has been on a rapid expansion to now more than 50 stores in California and soon also the first stores outside of California. Prior to his current role, Joel was Controller and Chief Accounting Officer at Calavo Growers, one of the world's largest growers of avocados, and Senior VP at Universal Music Latin Entertainment. We are honored to have him on board!
